12th December 2002

The Lincolnshire Showground will be bulging at the seams tonight (12th December) as students from the University of Lincoln flock to this year’s Student Union Christmas Ball.

A staggering 950 students have booked to attend the entertainment-packed evening which will be hosted by Channel 5’s stand-up comedian Rob Rouse.

Kicking off at 6.30pm, the students will need plenty of stamina to survive the rigourous evening of entertainment which will keep them on their feet until 2am tomorrow morning when the last coach leaves the showground.

The evening commences with a champagne reception after which the guests will tuck into a three-course meal accompanied by the banter of the host.

As the meal ends and mince pies and coffee are settling, the main entertainment will begin with a selection of live music from the 60’s to the present day from Dance Attack, the Jazz Warriors and Fatpoppadaddys, with Dane Bowers - former singer with Another Level and presenter of ‘Pop Stars: The Rivals’ - acting as DJ for the evening.

“We are all really looking forward to this evening,” said Adam Heyhurst, Student Union Co-operative Entertainments Officer.  “Everyone has worked really hard to make this a successful ball, particularly the event co-ordinator, Maria Lyon.

“The response has been amazing. Tickets were sold out within a week and we had to extend the hall with a marquee to allow more students to attend.”
