Lucky film fans will get a sneak preview of Gwyneth Paltrow’s new movie ‘Possession’ before its UK release next month.
The University of Lincoln and the Odeon Cinema are to host a gala screening of the film – much of which was shot on location in the city - on Tuesday 22nd October, three days before its general release.
The university and the Odeon have joined forces with the city and county councils, Lincolnshire Tourism, BBC Radio Lincolnshire and the Lincolnshire Echo to stage the glittering black tie event.
After a champagne reception in the university’s Alstom Atrium the VIP guests will attend a special screening at the Odeon Cinema compered by Melvyn Prior of BBC Radio Lincolnshire.
And the organisers are hoping to welcome a surprise star guest to the event.
“The release of ‘Possession’ in the UK and worldwide will really raise the profile of the city and the university,” said Jez Ashberry, spokesman for the University of Lincoln, which is the main sponsor for the event.
“The original novel by A S Byatt was partly set at a fictional Lincoln University, and the film production company was delighted to be able to use the real-life university and other parts of the city as a location for the film.”
‘Possession’ tells the story of Lincoln University academic Maud Bailey (Paltrow) who with an American colleague (Aaron Eckhart) uncovers a secret love affair between two Victorian poets (Jennifer Ehle and Jeremy Northam).
The gala screening will be invitation-only but members of the public will get the chance to compete for free tickets.
The event is being co-sponsored by Ruddocks printers.
