 NATIONAL AWARD FOR TALENTED DJ’S

Former University of Lincoln students scooped a national award at the Commercial Radio Companies Association Congress held in London this summer.

               .

The NTL Commercial Radio Presentation Newcomer of the Year award – in association with x-trax magazine –was presented to Jon Fox and Tom Rhys for their work at  96.9 Viking FM.

The winners - who graduated with degrees in Media Production and Journalism respectively from the University of Lincoln last year- present the late show during the week and the Saturday breakfast show on the radio station which broadcasts across Yorkshire and Humberside.

Jon (22) of Deal Close, Hull and Tom (23) of New Wanstead, London entered a five minute show reel of their best work into one of the most competitive categories in the competition.

The NTL national awards have now been running for 3 years and offer 14 categories from The New Media Award  to  The Commercial Radio News Award. In their category of  The Commercial Radio Presentation Newcomer, Jon and Tom were triumphant over Key 103 and Galaxy Network.

Tom explained, “ Foxy (Jon) is a northerner and I’m a southerner and so we come from opposing backgrounds. This works well because we are different from other radio double acts who normally have the same views and opinions.

“We both share a surreal sense of humour and aim to keep comedy and music flowing together throughout, which results in entertaining shows.”

The lucky winners celebrated their success in style with their prize – a case of champagne!
