NATIONAL PRIZE FOR BRANSTON PHOTOGRAPHER

Branston photography student Robert Cross is in line for a prize in a national art competition.

Robert (19), a second-year National Diploma Photography student at the Lincoln School of Art and Design, has been selected as one of the finalists in the ‘Distant Landscapes’ competition run by the exam and award body Edexcel.

He will be in London on Tuesday (9th April) to collect his prize - which could be as much as £1,000 - at a special awards ceremony.

A total of £5,000 in prize money is on offer to the finalists, and the winner of the £1,000 first prize will be invited to Edexcel’s Achievement in Education awards in July 2002.

Robert, who has been named as one of 16 national prizewinners, also has a chance to see his winning entry exhibited in Edexcel’s head offices in London.

“I’m very excited to be going to London as I’ve never been before,” said Robert, who hopes to study a photography at Nottingham Trent University after completing his National Diploma.

“I’ll be taking my camera with me on Tuesday and hoping to take some decent pictures!”

The competition theme was ‘Distant Landscapes’ and entrants were asked to produce ‘bright, inspiring and motivating work which could transport someone in a meeting in an office in the middle of a busy city to another place’.

Robert’s entry comprised three photographs which he took while travelling around the county at weekends.

He lives on Hall Lane in Branston.
