11th April 2002

Lincoln City Ladies Football Team will be meeting and greeting football fans at Lincoln’s Odeon Cinema this evening at the preview of the latest film ‘Bend It Like Beckham’.

This PR event, which gives the public the opportunity to meet the players, is part of a new marketing strategy developed by BA (Hons) Communications degree students from the University of Lincoln.

Clare Hoppett (21), Alison Moore (42), Danusia Moore (31), Zoe Radford (21) and Sharon Richardson (21) have spent the last two months researching the team for their Real Client Project.

Significantly raising the profile of the team is the main aim of the marketing strategy.  However, attracting sponsorship from local businesses and boosting supporter numbers are also priority objectives.

The team’s PR manager David Hill said: “Our aim is initially to raise the profile of the ladies club within the county and then the country.”

The team, who are currently top of the league, recently managed to attract the biggest turnout in a women’s FA Cup tie outside of a semi-final or final  – 1,850 visitors!  The FA has now agreed to stage an England international at Sincil Bank next season if the team can attract the highest attendance ever to their final game of the season against Chesterfield on 21st April.

If you would like to attend the promotional event this evening the ladies will be happy to greet you at the Odeon from 7.00 pm.  Visitors will also be invited to a penalty shoot-out, table football and a raffle.  For more information contact the Odeon on 01522 787126.
