Managers from ALSTOM will not be relaxing this weekend - staff and students from the university plan to put their team-working skills to the test in an intensive training course.
Eight managers from ALSTOM will be travelling to Riseholme Park tomorrow (Friday 8th March) to attend the first of three management team development courses which are run with the Riseholme Outdoor Recreation team at the University of Lincoln.
“We often run management courses for local companies and industry and have worked with the ALSTOM training team before,” said course director and lecturer in Outdoor Recreation Robin Wright.
The course will concentrate on teamwork and aims to develop the managers’ communication, organisation and prioritising skills while they face difficult situations under pressure.
“Friday will be spent coaching and planning at Riseholme,” said Robin. “Then we will take the managers across country to Derbyshire where they will be spending the weekend practising team building activities such as abseiling, climbing and canoeing.”
Robin Wright is heading the course along with senior practical instructor Geoff Banks and Outdoor Instructor Gary Knight.
Ten students from Riseholme studying Outdoor Recreation will also be helping out on the course. “This is valuable experience for our students as it gives them a chance to put the skills they learn into practice and gives them industrial experience.”
Organising the course from ALSTOM is development officer Angela Borman, who added: “It is useful for ALSTOM to work with the University of Lincoln. Being local we can utilise the university’s resources to help develop our management training.”
