When the names of the Oscar winners are announced next month one former Lincoln student will have a special reason to get excited.
Clare Wade, who studied Media Production at the University of Lincoln from 1997 to 2000, has her name on the credits of ‘Gosford Park’, the Robert Altman movie which has been nominated for seven Academy Awards.
Clare – known to her friends as ‘Woody’ – worked on the film as a runner and was lucky enough to meet a galaxy of stars on the set, including Helen Mirren, Derek Jacobi, Maggie Smith, Stephen Fry, Michael Gambon, Kristin Scott Thomas and Richard E Grant.
Her first break came immediately after she graduated when she worked on the set of ‘Possession’, starring Gwyneth Paltrow, in Lincoln in the summer of 2000.
“The same team I worked with on ‘Possession’ contacted me again to ask me to work on ‘Gosford Park’,” said Clare, who hails from Keelby, near Grimsby.
“Working on ‘Gosford Park’was excellent, particularly when we all went together to the cast and crew screening of the film in Leicester Square.”
After spells working on a US television series in Ealing and as a PA at Sky Television, Clare is now enjoying getting a glimpse behind the scenes in Albert Square as a runner on ‘Eastenders’.
“It’s not as glamorous as you might think, but you do have a laugh,” she says. “It’s nice to see all these famous faces, but once the novelty wears off it’s just a job like any other.”
Now that she’s got a foot on the ladder she hopes to establish herself as a producer in the future. “Getting work in the film and television industry is mainly by word of mouth, and once you’re in you’re in, so I’m very pleased with the way my career’s going so far,” she said.
