Lucky student Daniel Sandy got a pleasant surprise when he joined the sports centre at the University of Lincoln this week.

As the 2000th member to sign up at the new facility he won Lucozade goodies including a sports bag, bottles and drinks.

“I’m chuffed and surprised,” said Daniel, a first-year Communications student based at the university’s Brayford Pool campus. “I knew nothing about the offer until I walked in here today!”

Sports facility manager Helen Evans is delighted at the large number of staff and students who have paid their membership fees this year.

“To sign up 2,000 members in just over a year is a remarkable achievement and we’re very pleased,” she said. “We’re very busy down here and we’ve been processing five inductions every day in the fitness suite.

“As staff and student numbers increase and as the reputation of the sports centre  becomes more widely known we’re sure that membership will continue to rise.”

Popular new classes offered at the sports centre including spinning (a revolutionary cycling cardiovascular workout), salsa aerobics, kick boxing and dance.
