NEW INSTITUTE TO HONOUR EDUCATION CHIEF
Lincolnshire’s Director of Education Dr Cheryle Berry is to be awarded a prestigious fellowship at the launch of the university’s new education institute this Friday 22nd June.
Influential education experts from around the world will be attending the launch of the International Institute for Educational Leadership (formerly the International Educational Leadership Centre) at the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside’s Lincoln campus on 22nd and 23rd June.
“Dr Berry’s fellowship is in recognition of her work on encouraging links between the county and the university,” commented Prof Angela Thody from the IIEL.
The launch is aimed at IIEL alumni and current postgraduates and their guests and
speakers will include Professor Kenneth Leithwood of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto, and Gervase Phinn, renowned writer and according to the TES “one of the most accomplished speakers”.
The IIEL has a strong track record in education management, recruiting approximately one-tenth of the national postgraduate education management market.
“We have a reputation for world-class work,” said the director of the institute, Fergus O’Sullivan. “This launch is part of the new direction of the university which is to further our international links and develop world class partnerships in key areas.
“The institute also supports the concept of self-managing schools,” added Fergus. “We currently have 450 UK postgraduate students and 250 international postgraduate students enrolled on our courses.”
The institute has a national and international reputation for its postgraduate courses in Education Management, Learning and Development, Bursarial Studies and Educational Leadership. In 1998/1999 3,943 postgraduates were enrolled in education management in the UK. Of these approximately 400 were enrolled at ULH.
