A book written by lecturers at the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside has been given the seal of approval by a US academic magazine.

‘Environmental Policy in the European Union’ written by Professor Ian Barnes and his wife Pamela Barnes, both lecturers at the university, was chosen as an Outstanding Academic Title in 2000 by Choice magazine, a publication widely read by academic librarians in the US.

The couple, who live in Hull, both lecture in European Integration at the university and have received several prestigious academic awards. Professor Barnes was awarded the Jean Monnet chair in European Economic Integration in 1997 and Mrs Barnes was awarded the Jean Monnet chair in European Political Integration in July 2000.

The couple are extremely pleased with the news. “We’re delighted to have received this award and the reviews have been excellent,” said Mrs Barnes.

“The review by Professor JR McDonald for Choice magazine said the chapter on the making of environmental policy is perhaps the most cogent summary of the EU and its institutions to have ever appeared in print,” added Mrs Barnes.
