10th November 1999

Local people are invited to dance the night away this Saturday evening (13th November) at the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside’s Winter salsa.

For those less familiar with salsa-style dance moves, some of the university’s Colombian students will be giving an informal class from 7.30pm to get everyone in the mood.

The salsa evening in the atrium at the Lincoln campus includes a bar extension to 1am and is part of a series of Hispanic events over November and December.

Money raised at the event will go towards Lincoln’s Adopt a School Campaign - a scheme to rebuild a school in Colombia destroyed by a devastating earthquake earlier this year.

The university has many international students, including Colombians, and it was they who brought the plight of the Eje Cafetero region to the city’s attention. The campaign has the full support of Lincoln City Council.

The next Hispanic event in the autumn programme is a talk on Brazilian music by David Treece of King’s College, London. This takes place on Friday, 3rd December.
