14th April 1999

Baroness Maddock, the national president of the Liberal Democrats, will be shown around Lincoln’s new university campus when she visits the city on Friday (16th April).

The former Christchurch MP Diana Maddock is to pay a visit to the county as the guest of Steve Taylor, the leader of the Lib Dems on West Lindsey District Council.

As part of her fact-finding tour she will meet David Mullaney, the university’s Director of Estates, and Nigel Stephenson, the university’s architect, to hear about the university’s plans to further develop the campus site.

“The purpose of the visit is to show how councils when they act together for the community can achieve something very positive,” said Councillor Taylor, who was a member of West Lindsey District Council when it contributed to the cost of creating the new university.

“Had local councils not got together and put the money up it’s highly unlikely that there would ever have been the impetus to build a new university in Lincoln.”
