A conference at a Spanish university gave four Lincoln students the chance to practice their public speaking skills.

Jacqueline Daniels, Ruth Gray, Susan Herkes and Val Sargent are all on the BA (Hons) Humanities programme at the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside.

Together with lecturer Dr Kate Hill the group travelled to Cordoba University for a seven-day conference, ‘Cities in Europe’.

Part of the Socrates Intensive Programme, which organises student exchanges, the event was attended by representatives of eight European universities.

The Lincoln-based students presented a paper on the new middle classes and their use of space in the 19th century.

“The delegates who attended the conference were a mix of many backgrounds,” said Dr Hill. “Academics from various fields including history and geography were joined in the debate by undergraduates and postgraduates.”
