HUNDREDS RAISED BY CHARITY RUNNER

Runner Cindy Woods has raised £400 for the Meningitis Research Foundation by taking part in Sunday’s Great North Run.

Cindy, from the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside, is a keen member of Beverley Athletics Club and decided to raise the money for the foundation after a friend’s child was affected by meningitis.

Having run with the club for just eight months, Cindy, from Westmill Rise, Walkington, completed the 13-mile annual run with the help of lots of training.

“It was hard work, but I had a great time,” she said. “A friend of mine has a child who contracted meningitis 18 months ago so it did mean a lot to raise that money.”

Cindy is a well-known voice at the university – she works on the switchboard – and was recently involved in the university’s drive to become more environmentally-friendly.

Cindy and colleague Kim Hague moved hundreds of used Kingston Communications telephone directories to Kingston House where they were recycled.
