A Journalism student from the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside landed herself a plum summer job in the press office at Yorkshire Television.

Emma Carrick, a second-year student at the university’s Lincoln campus, is spending three months as an assistant press officer with YTV in Leeds, working on new dramas including Heartbeat, At Home with the Braithwaites and A Touch of Frost.

The placement began shortly after Emma finished her second year at university and has given her plenty of work to do during the summer break. “I only had three days between finishing university and starting work, so its been a bit hectic,” she said.

For the past two years Emma has been the news editor on the university’s student radio station SIREN FM. Her placement in Leeds has given her some invaluable work experience which she admits has been an eye-opener.

“Working full time is not easy, and I’d give anything to be back at uni, but it’s been a brilliant experience,” said Emma, who comes from West Morton near Keighley, West Yorkshire.

Emma, who will return to Lincoln in September for the third year of her Journalism degree, hopes to become a broadcast journalist after graduating in July 2001.
