SKY’S THE LIMIT FOR GRADUATE
University of Lincolnshire & Humberside graduate James Waddell is well on his way to a successful career in the media after scoring a job as production assistant with Sky Television.
Currently based at Pinewood Studios, James, who graduated with a first-class degree in BA (Hons) Media Production in June, is working on two business channels being produced for Sky by an independent company.
He’s also busy rubbing shoulders with the stars - he spied Paul McGann in the canteen and US film star Meg Ryan was at Pinewood just last week.
“It’s a brilliant opportunity to get some real hands-on experience,” said James, who hails from Newark and who is now staying with his mum in London while he looks for a flat in Middlesex.
Thanks to the ultra-modern facilities at the Lincoln campus, some of the equipment used by the production company is almost identical to what was available to James and his fellow students on the Media Production course.
“I’m doing research at the moment, but once the sets for the new channels have been built I’ll hopefully have the chance to do lots of different jobs, from video editing to camerawork,” he added.
While at the Lincoln campus James organised the first Media Production graduate show and was awarded the Sony accolade for best television student.
His placements have included spells at Blue Peter, Calendar News and BBC East Midlands.
