A new professor of social policy has been appointed to the Faculty of Social and Life Sciences at the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside.

Prof Carol Walker is currently in the same post at Sheffield Hallam University where she has done significant research into issues such as poverty, and services for people with learning disabilities and their carers.

Based at the Lincoln campus, Prof Walker’s main task will be to continue research into social policy as well as lecturing students in the faculty.

The new professor will take up her new position in the Department of Social Policy in September where she will join fellow professors Hugh Bochel and Peter Somerville.

“We’re very pleased to welcome Prof Walker to Lincoln and we look forward to working with her,” said Prof Bochel, head of department.

The summer vacation is proving very busy for the department with academic staff attending international conferences to give papers on current issues.

In August Prof Bochel, Prof Peter Somerville and lecturer Catherine Bochel will visit the United States to attend the American Sociological Association Conference in Washington DC.

During the five-day event the ULH staff will hold talks with colleagues from Georgia State University in Atlanta to discuss possible future projects. They will also visit the Annie Casey Foundation in Baltimore - a charitable trust set up to provide a forum for social policy issues.
