A Grimsby mother and son will graduate together from the University of  Lincolnshire & Humberside at Grimsby Auditorium on Monday (11th July).

Linda and Scott Jackson of Rosina Grove North, Grimsby, studied on the HND Travel and Tourism and BA Business Studies programmes at Grimsby College, which is associated to the university.

“When the children grew up I had to decide what to do with my life,” said Linda who worked at Superdrug in the town before taking a change in career direction.

“I studied for a travel agents qualification which gave me the confidence to go on to take the HND,” she added. “Now I’m looking into taking the Tourism degree course although I may stay in my current job.”

As part of the Travel and Tourism course Linda made two trips to the Gambia with other students to research the differences in living standards and take over much needed school supplies.

Linda works on reception at the Winter Gardens entertainment centre in Cleethorpes, the town where son Scott studied for his A-levels.

“My ambition is to get on a trainee management course with a pub chain, possibly Wetherspoons,” said Scott, 20, who started the business studies course a year before his mother.
