Mature student Velda Lockwood is looking forward to a new career in criminal justice after graduating with a degree in Criminology at the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside.

Velda (34), who hails from Lincoln, has spent the last two years working at Wordsworth House, a probation hostel on Yarborough Road while she completed her degree.

Now she will join hundreds of other students at Lincoln Cathedral on the morning of Tuesday 11th July to collect her degree certificate from the university’s Chancellor, Dr Harry Hooper.

“When my youngest son went to school I decided I would get into education too, so I enrolled on a GNVQ course in Health and Social Care at North Lincolnshire College,” said Velda.

“A work placement which I went on while at the college got me interested in criminology, and as the university in Lincoln offered a degree course in the subject it was very convenient for me to sign up.

“We’ve got some very good lecturers at Lincoln and the course was very enjoyable,” Velda added.

Velda, who started at Wordsworth House as a relief worker, is hoping to continue her career within the criminal justice system in the future.
