20th June 2000

The UK president of ABB Alstom Power Paul Barron CBE will be giving an insight into how business acumen can be improved through good communication at the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside next Monday (26th June).

In his masterclass Mr Barron will also use the examples of Bill Gates and Walt Disney in explaining how high aspirations within the bounds of ‘business reality’ can help outstrip the competition.

Mr Barron, 49, began his career at the gas turbine business in Lincoln in 1967, rising through the ranks from apprentice to president of the UK operation. Over his time with the company he has held senior positions in manufacturing, engineering, machine shop management and customer support.

In 1989 he became Managing Director and introduced a major cultural change involving trades unions aimed at developing a flexible and committed workforce focused on team-working for competitive advantage.

Mr Barron took the position of Senior Vice President in 1996 and became responsible for Alstom’s industrial gas turbine business worldwide.

The masterclass is part of a series organised by the Lincoln School of Management- the UK chief will give his masterclass in the Jackson Lecture Theatre from 2pm to 3.15pm.
