Journalism student Claire Musson has returned from The Times newspaper in London after a challenging and busy week on work experience.

The second-year University of Lincolnshire & Humberside student spent a week at the paper on what was her first solo trip to the capital.

Work experience is an important aspect of the Journalism degree at the Lincoln campus and Claire’s coup will play a significant role in helping her to find a job in the competitive world of newspapers.

“I had a great week and wrote a lot of stories - but unfortunately none of them actually appeared in the Times!” said Claire, 20, who hails from Barnsley. “I also spent quite a lot of time helping with the paper’s Mozambique floods appeal.”

Claire was one of hundreds of would-be journalists who write to The Times and other national newspapers hoping for a taste of the ‘glamorous’ world of journalism. Only a lucky few make it through the front door to discover what it’s really like.

Spending a week at The Times, Claire also had the exhilarating experience of living and commuting in Central London for the first time.
