A controversial New Testament scholar is due to visit Lincoln as part of his national tour on Wednesday 5th April.

The University of Lincolnshire & Humberside will host leading biblical scholar and author Dr Robert Funk in the Jackson Lecture Theatre at the Lincoln campus.

On the ‘Jesus Seminar on the Road’ UK 2000 tour Dr Funk will share his views on what he calls the ‘genuine article’ of Jesus which he believes is hidden behind the words of the New Testament.

The ‘Jesus Before the Myth’ lecture at the university is a unique opportunity for anyone, whatever their religious views, to meet an uncompromising speaker who seeks to portray Jesus in a more honest light as he sees it.

Dr Funk, from Berkeley in California, is a leading American biblical scholar of the last three decades and has served as executive secretary and president of the Society for Biblical Literature. He is the author of a dozen books and co-founder of the Jesus Seminar.

In his seminar Dr Funk will speak on his own vision of Jesus for the third millennium, a Jesus freed from what he terms religious and political propaganda and restored to his role of critic, rebel and sage.

The six-week tour will see Dr Funk at 21 British universities and cathedrals as he spreads his message up and down the country.

The Lincoln lecture will begin at 7.30pm. Admission is £4 - for more details ring Rev Leslie Acklam on 01522 887827.
