Student footballers at the Lincoln campus of the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside are hoping to raise enough money for a soccer tour to Pennsylvania.

The university’s third team has achieved some excellent results since it was formed in September and has earned a reputation as a dedicated and professional unit.

“On and off the pitch this dedication has shone through with trips to other universities such as Sheffield, Nottingham and Leicester strengthening the relationship between Lincoln, a relatively new campus, and the more established universities,” said team manager Nick Tull, a third-year Criminology student.

Contacts with other universities have now reached across the Atlantic to the United States, and Nick is in the process of organising a tour to the University of Pennsylvania over Easter.

The link-up has been arranged by Scott Pardoe, a student from the Lincoln campus who is currently on a one-year exchange at Juniata College in Pennsylvania.

“We have already organised several fund-raising events to pay for the trip, but we would be extremely grateful for any support that could be offered by local business in the form of sponsorship,” said Nick.

“Sponsorship would allow the majority of the team to participate in a once-in-a-lifetime experience and will undoubtedly enhance the reputation of the city and the university overseas.”

Lincoln 3rd XI are due to meet Humberside 3rd XI in a local derby clash tomorrow (Wednesday 9th February). Kick-off at Ruston Marconi is at 2pm - photographers are welcome.
