Barnsley student Claire Musson is heading off to London next month to do work experience with The Times newspaper.

The University of Lincolnshire & Humberside Journalism student will set off on 6th March for what will be her first solo trip to the capital.

“I’m very excited and nervous at the same time,” said Claire, from Reginald Road, Barnsley. “I wrote off without ever having done work experience on a paper before and I was accepted.”

Work experience is an important aspect of the Journalism degree at the Lincoln campus and Claire’s coup will play a significant role in helping her to find a job in the competitive world of newspapers.

Claire will spend a week at The Times, where she will gain first hand experience of living and commuting in central London. To help cover her living costs The Times will pay her a living allowance.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” said Claire, 20, who lives in the university’s student village. “I’ve only been to London a couple of times and now I’m going to work in the newsroom of one of the most prestigious publications in the world.”
