Five hundred overseas students and their families will attend a celebration lunch at the Royal Station Hotel following the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside’s winter graduation ceremony at City Hall on Friday (21st January).

The meal is an annual get-together for the visitors who are coming from the university’s international franchise colleges to receive their degrees on Friday.

The yearly gathering was on a much smaller scale when it was first held several years ago but over the years it has expanded rapidly.

“The students get the chance to socialise with academic staff who are also invited and everybody has a great time,” said organiser Ina Nelson from the university’s international office.

This year’s huge demands for tickets meant that Ms Nelson has had to book two rooms for the meal instead of the usual one. “It’s a very popular event,” she added.

The visitors will come from a several institutions including the Hogeschool Enschede in Holland to collect a range of degree qualifications earned abroad.
