LOOK INTO LOCAL HISTORY ON-LINE

Internet surfers can now learn more about Lincolnshire’s history by visiting a new website.

Learning Support staff at the Lincoln campus of the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside have developed the site, which features information on tours and heritage days, biographies of famous Lincolnshire personalities and guides to cities, towns and villages including Lincoln, Boston, Grimsby, Gainsborough, Old Bolingbroke and Tattershall.

“It’s a nice collaboration between academics at the university and the Learning Support team,” said staffer Oonagh Capel.

“As we’re using digital cameras and the Internet it’s also a good example of how new technologies can be exploited.”

The site does not aim to provide a comprehensive history of Lincolnshire; instead it provides useful links to other historical resources on the Internet and elsewhere.

“We’re not in the business of writing a history book,” said Oonagh. “We’re providing a resource, a gateway to other sources of information.

“We hope the site will encourage history students to look at the area in a different way.”
