SPORTSWOMAN REALISES NATIONAL DREAM

A student finance officer from Hull is heading to Selby next Friday (9th December) to compete at national level in bowls.

Lesley Oliver, who works at the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside, is now at the peak of her game and is through to the third round of National Ladies Pairs.

And it’s all down to her husband Peter, who is also an indoor bowls fanatic. “Peter persuaded me to try it and after a couple of false starts I really got the bug,” said Lesley, who also plays alongside her husband in mixed competitions. “I love the game - it’s really quite addictive!”

Lesley has travelled all over to compete and devotes much of her spare time to the sport. Recently she was in Harrogate and Middlesbrough for matches.

It’s been six years since she first took up the sport, but Lesley says building up to competing at national level does take several years and lots of hard work and dedication.

Lesley and Peter have two daughters at university: postgraduate student Caroline, 23, and 20-year-old undergraduate Deborah.
