STUDENT BROADCASTERS GO LIVE ON AIR

Lincoln’s first student radio station hit the airwaves in May and was an instant hit with local listeners.

Siren FM broadcast from the radio studio at the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside, beaming a youthful mix of music, news and sport into homes within 15 miles of the city on 87.9FM.

The radio station was also heard by listeners all over the world who were able to tune in via the Internet at www.siren.ulh.ac.uk.

“It’s been an exciting experience and great fun,” said news editor Emma Carrick, a first-year journalism student at the university. “We were doing it for real for a whole month, which is fantastic. It was hard work, but it was worthwhile.”

Siren FM continued broadcasting 24 hours a day for four weeks, and students are hoping that they will be granted another licence to go on air again next year.
