RETURN TO EDUCATION BRINGS NEW CAREER DIRECTION

Hull Truck Theatre’s general manager struck out in a new direction when she returned to education after bringing up a family.

Having left school at 16, Joanne Gower took various jobs before marrying at the age of 20 and taking a career break in order to have children.

When she decided to re-start her career by going to university she chose to study Interior Design at the Hull School of Architecture, University of Lincolnshire & Humberside - at least partly because her two brothers are architects.

After three years of study in Hull she graduated in 1997 with a BA (Hons) degree. Earlier this year, having spent 18 months working as administrative director of Humberside Theatre in Education, she was appointed general manager of the award-winning Hull truck Theatre, home of the playwright John Godber.

Now 35, Joanne lives with her husband and their two children in Willerby, near Hull.
