LINCOLN STUDENTS HAVING A BALL

Students at Lincoln’s new university campus celebrated Rag Week at the end of April with their first ever Rag Ball.

More than 400 students donned their best clothes for the occasion - a formal dinner and ball with a live band and a disco at Kelham Hall near Newark.

The event - the first of its kind for students in the city - was a sell-out, with 420 tickets snapped up at £30 a head by youngsters keen to help raise money for a good cause.

Proceeds from the ball went to the Shaftesbury Society, a local charity which helps young people with mental health problems, and to Lighthouse, the AIDS awareness charity.

“We sold all our tickets within a few days and everyone had a fantastic time,” said organiser Lawrence Wright afterwards. “Kelham Hall was an ideal venue for the event.”

Lawrence also thanked the sponsors of the ball, who included the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside and Barclays Bank.
