Leading lights from the Royal Television Society were in Lincoln last night (Wednesday) to see for themselves the new media production facilities at the university campus.

The first ever joint meeting of the Yorkshire and East Midlands centres of the RTS was well attended, with members coming from BBC Leeds, Yorkshire Television, Central Television, Carlton Studios (Nottingham), Midland Broadcasting Corporation (Leicester) and a number of independent production companies.

Robin Small from the Yorkshire centre of the RTS said members were very impressed with the university’s facilities and with the splendid location of the campus. “Both we and the East Midlands centre will be keen to use the university again for joint meetings, which could become a regular feature of our annual programme,” he said.

Geoff Thompson, the manager of the university’s Media Production Centre, said he was pleased with the visit, which included a demonstration of the state-of-the-art digital video editing equipment.

“I think a number of people were impressed and perhaps surprised by our Lincoln facilities,” he said. “Some enquired about our commercial charges, which is a healthy sign that Lincoln has something to offer the television industry.”
