A ground-breaking Internet-based information system designed by a Hull academic was used on the set of the forthcoming film ‘Plunkett & Macleane’.

‘Kinonet’ was created and developed by Grethe Mitchell, a senior lecturer in Interactive Design at the Queens Gardens campus of the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside.

“Its use on the set of ‘Plunkett & Macleane’ was a world first for the film industry,” said Grethe, who also runs her own new media business consultancy in Hull.

“As I have over fifteen years’ experience in film and television much of our work is for the film industry.”

For the past two years Grethe has given a presentation on her ‘Kinonet’ system at the Milia d’Or awards in Cannes - the new media equivalent of the Cannes Film festival.

She was also invited to sit on the jury for the 1999 awards which were held last month.

The film ‘Plunkett & Macleane’ stars Robert Carlyle and Liv Tyler and is released in the UK on 2nd April.
