23rd  February 1999

Fifty pupils from De Aston School in Market Rasen will be getting to grips with state-of-the-art TV production equipment tomorrow (Wednesday 24th February) when they pay a visit to the Lincoln campus of the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside.

The year 10 pupils will also tour the new campus and be given a sample Italian lesson by a university language tutor.

But their main task will be to prepare a live news broadcast entitled ‘Higher Education - In the Spotlight!’. The pupils will work with student ambassadors from the university’s Media Production course to prepare a script for the broadcast - and they will also take on the roles of presenter, reporter, cameraman, sound engineer and director for a day.

“Our aim is to give pupils an insight into the life of a modern university student, but we also want them to have a good time while they’re learning new skills,” commented Jacqueline Mayer of the university’s education liaison team.
