STUDENTS SHARPEN THEIR DEBATING SKILLS

Law students from Lincoln will pit their wits against the rest of the country when they take part in a debating competition at St Andrew’s University on 13th March.

Four members of the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside’s Law Society will travel up to Scotland to enjoy the two-day Marquess of Bute Memorial Debating Championships, which will feature black tie parties, a ceilidh and a disco as well as the competition itself.

“It’s a new opportunity for the Law Society students to practise their skills,” said Law Society President Darryn Mitchell. “And it’s also a chance for our university and our students to get national recognition.”

Students taking part in the competition, which is being sponsored by Barclays Bank, will be asked to prepare their arguments for a given stance fifteen minutes before they are due to debate the issue.

Between 20 and 30 teams are expected in Fife for the long-established event.
