Three third-year illustrators from the Hull School of Art and Design are to have their work showcased in the prestigious ‘Artists and Illustrators’ magazine.

University of Lincolnshire & Humberside students Jennette White, Sarah Kershaw and John Simpson won first, second and third prize respectively in a competition organised by the magazine and art materials manufacturers Daler-Rowney.

Jennette won Ł200 worth of art materials as first prize and all three students will see their winning illustrations reproduced in the May issue of ‘Artists and Illustrators’.

“ ‘Artists and Illustrators’ is probably Britain’s premier monthly magazine for artists,” said Mickey Finn, a senior illustration lecturer at the university. “The success of these three illustrators reflects terrifically well on all our students, especially the final year group that we’ve got at the moment. We’re the equal of any art school in the country.”

Schools were asked to submit students’ work for the ‘Student Showcase’ competition, which was judged by a panel including Brendan Neiland RA, the keeper of the Royal Academy School.

Jennette’s winning illustration showed two figures on the surface of the moon catching stars in a net. The May issue of ‘Artists and Illustrators’, in which Jennnette gives an interview about her work, goes on sale on 5th April.
