Significant University investment has borne fruit in the appointments of several professors and the achievement of research funding approaching one million pounds, including the prestigious AHRC funded 'Comics and the World Wars', and the previous AHRC funded ‘Televising History 1995-2010’ - a successful and influential project. The Faculty is currently home to the editors of four international journals: European Journal of Cultural Studies, Labour History Review, Journal of Communication Ethics and The International Journal of Regional and Local Studies.

The Faculty enjoys a thriving research culture including regular research seminars and houses three research centres: Centre for European Cultural Studies (CECS); Centre for Research in Journalism (CRJ) and Centre for Regional and Local History (CRLH). Postgraduate students participate in the work of seminars and centres and enjoy their own dedicated work and social space within the Graduate School.
