The Media and Broadcast Production Centre

The Centre in the MHT building comprises:

  • Two TV studios, one with an audience capacity of 135 and 14.5M x 16.5M. (2,500 sq ft)

  • Three radio studios, including one specially equipped for teaching purposes.

  • 24 track live HD digital multi-track audio studio.

  • Photographic studio with digital studio cameras.

  • Digital photography suite.

  • Multimedia production suites.

  • Extensive video and audio post production and dubbing facilities.

Television Studios

Studio 1. (2,527 Sq Ft, audience capacity 135) is permanently equipped with 5 Sony DXD30WSPL 16:9 cameras with Fuji 16x lenses. Two of the studio pedestals have autocue fitted.  Supports include Cinekinetic MCJib crane arm.  This studio offers Sony DVS2000C digital vision mixing, and DME-3000 effects, with Inscriber CG Extreme system for graphics. The sound desk is a Soundcraft Spirit Live 4-24 channel.  The extensive studio lighting is controlled/programmed with a 96 channel digital Strand desk. The studio is wired to the broad band computer network where a wide range of audio and video software connectivity is possible. It also has connections to other facilities via a SDI harness, linking to our extensive communications system.

Studio 2. (750 Sq Ft, 70.72 Sq M) is equipped with 3 Sony DXD30WSPL 16:9 switchable cameras with Fuji 16x lenses and autocue is available.  The Sony DVS2000C vision mixer is complimented by an Inscriber CG Supreme graphics system. The sound desk is a soundcraft Spirit Live 4-24 channel. The studio lighting is controlled / programmed with a 24 channel digital Strand desk. This studio is also wired to the broad band computer network where a wide range of audio and video software connectivity is possible, and it also has connections to other facilities via an SDI harness, which can be linked to our extensive communications system.

Radio & Audio 

Mixing deskMulti-track recording studios comprise dual control room, three recording areas including, live room, dead room and drum isolation booth for music and drama production. A post-production and dubbing theatre, four radio production studios, six audio edit suites and an Audio Production teaching and production suite. Pro Tools HD2/Mac Pro, Soundcraft Ghost 24ch and Yamaha 02R96 v.2 digital mixing consoles, iMac/Pro Tools LE 8 & Logic Studio, PC/Cubase, Digidesign 003 control surface, Genelec 8030A & Tannoy monitoring, DV Toolkit (5.1 surround sound), Blue Sky MediaDesk 5.1 surround monitoring. Wide selection of microphones including AKG, Rode, Neumann, Electrovoice and outboard equipment including Sony, Drawmer, TC Electronics, Akai, Alesis. The radio studios all have recording rooms attached, and have the full range of inputs, e.g. DAT, Minidisk, CD and grams, as well as a range of microphones and telephones units. The Alice Air 2000 desk is at the heart of each studio, which also contains input to and output from PC systems with a range of audio software including Samplitude and Cool Edit Pro. Each studio is also equipped with industry standard SADiE systems.

Video Post-production

The Centre offers non-linear digital post-production for DV, DVCam and Solid State HD Editing. The suites on offer feature Avid Media Composer and XPress DV, Final Cut Pro & Delux, Pinaccle Liquid Edition.

Acquisition Equipment 

The Centre has standardised its own video and field recording formats DVCam and AVCHD for High Definition. For video it deploys Panasonic professional camcorders and also offers the usual range of supports, lighting, grip and ancillary equipment.

The University broadcast radio 24/7/365 in Lincoln as Siren FM, the local Community Radio Station, also available on line.
