After a theory based BA at the University of Oslo -Norway, I came to London to do a BA Fine Art Painting at St. Martins College of Art and Design and a MA Fine Art at The Slade, UCL. I have been a practicing artist since graduating in 95 and exhibited widely in Great Britain and Europe. From 1997 I have also taught at a number of art schools. In my practice I am predominantly concerned with painting in relation to its environment and in exploring the space between the spectator, the space and the artwork. Much of my work has been site specific or exploring ideas of space. This often takes the form of very large, two-dimensional architectural installations where the site of the installation is a constituting part of the meaning of the piece. I work in a variety of mediums, which are defined by the questions the work seeks to pose and the site it is relating to. The installations can include altering a space physically, even permanently or more subtle interventions.

Current Research

Present research revolves around an investigation of contemporary notions of places, spaces and processes in art. The research is both theory and practice based and is achieved in the form of artworks and installation proposals towards exhibitions. The research includes working in collaboration with and as a consultant for an architecture practice; outcomes include designing a site specific and site relational Holocausts exhibition for the Second World War Nazi command centre in Oslo. This exhibition will open September 06 to the public. I am also currently exploring site-specificity and curating in relation to the internet, and I am curating an internet group exhibition project with artists, architects and writers. This exhibition will be further disseminated through a publication.
