Research Area
Issues of translatability, cultural ignorance and the politics of language both in a personal and global context.

Research Statement
I am curious as to how I can make art in and for a foreign context – i.e. where I do not have access to the intricacies and subtleties of a shared, lived cultural experience with my audience. Also, as someone who speaks English as a first language, I am aware of the political implications of that position as something I need to examine, and possibly confront. Another concern is to develop new ways of working with artists and theorists from other cultures, ways that acknowledge our different experiences and urgencies, while avoiding a process of homogenisation.
