The Labour of Art

The Labour of Art, an enquiry into strategies foregrounding the temporal aspect of making art; the time spent becomes the product rather than the finished object. Such an enquiry at this point in time is timely as the traditional site of this labour, the artists studio, has been shifting through the late 20th Century to include the gallery and other non art sites both real and virtual. A discursively determined site, in which notions of labour, monotony and repetition amongst other things are offered up to the audience. Exploring the possibility of the site of production becoming at the same time, the site of exhibition, and all that this may involve in terms of the relationship between the artist, art and audience. Resulting in a blurring of the boundaries between site as exhibition and site as production.

Beacon

BEACON is a curatorial project of mine whose mission is art>travel>site, it’s aim is to establish new art and new artists in the rural. It’s objectives are to programme a regular series of innovative visual art projects, establish and consolidate an audience, locally, regionally and nationally and raise the resources to support the programme of work.
