History at Lincoln is your chance to study past societies and cultures in a way that will also sharpen your understanding of the world we live in today. The programme covers British, European and American history from the medieval period to the late twentieth century, with particular themes, such as national, local and regional belonging, and class, gender and ethnicity, recurring throughout the study units. There is a particular emphasis on the relationship between state and society and we take pride in our innovative approach to the subject. As a History student, you will consult a range of secondary
texts and engage with current discussion and debates within the
subject. You will also have the chance to examine primary source
materials, from nineteenth-century newspapers, census returns
and Parliamentary Papers, to fictional texts, works of art,
buildings, landscape and oral testimony. Recent additions to the
single honours programme include several units exploring
