Welcome to the Lincoln School of Journalism |
![]() |
The School of Journalism forms part of the Faculty of Media, Humanities and Technology at the University of Lincoln. It was formally opened by the celebrated investigative journalist John Pilger in November 2004 to develop the study of journalism in all its aspects.
The character of the Lincoln journalism programme is
distinctive, with a particular focus on journalism and
international human rights, comparative press and media
history, investigative journalism, the regulation and
conduct of journalists, and the relationship between
journalism and literature.
All staff have a background in journalism and many
continue to be working journalists. A majority of research
by staff in the school was rated as internationally
outstanding in the 2008 official Research Assessment
Exercise, which rated 70% of work in the top 3* and 4*
grades.
Visit the Research Assessment Exercise web site.
The School provides a large BA Journalism programme, which is accredited by both the Broadcast Journalism Training Council and the Periodical Training Council, together with a wide range of undergraduate joint honours programmes, which partner journalism with English, History and other academic subjects.
An innovative postgraduate programme includes a flagship
masters in journalism and specialist postgraduate courses
including sport, science, arts, community radio and human
rights journalism. The school also houses a growing number
of research degree students, undertaking M.Phil and PhD
study and Lincoln’s special DJourn programme.
Internship opportunities are plentiful: the school maintains strong links with the BBC, regional newspapers and magazines. The faculty houses Lincoln’s own community radio station Siren FM, on which many journalism students work. The school also has a unique relationship with Lincoln’s award winning local newspaper, the Echo, which provides 50 internships a year.
