Project Manager for Service User and Carer Involvement Gina Hardesty has won the Ian Light Award for working in pairs. Together with Debbie Kouzarides from the University of York Gina will work with members of the SUPA Group to transfer skills and knowledge to assist them to set up a service user led consultation surgery similar to that used on the Hull site. In return the SUPA Group will gain experience and skills in developing their teaching skills further into becoming training mentors and investors in quality training and development and setting good practice for future training opportunities.
This is a very exciting project for both universities and there is national interest in this work. The awarding body are so impressed by the submission that they have asked permission for Gina and Debbie to be shadowed by two other development workers so that there is a wider scope for this model to be rolled out.
"Well done Lincoln - we got there first" says Gina. "I cannot believe that an idea (to set up service user led consultation surgeries), that came to me over a cup of coffee and a chat with some peers whilst pushing some other ideas around would end up here. I cannot believe the interest and fuss It is fantastic and what the job is all about!".
Ian Light was a true ambassador, and to be able to honour him in this way is a magnificent tribute but a massive responsibility too. I know he would laugh at me taking this so seriously as worrying about this but his work was special and he took it very seriously, so I know Debbie and I will want to do the same with this project. I have worked with Debbie before and she is great, and cannot wait to get stuck into this!"

Thank you to everyone who continues to support our work, and good luck to the success of this project. We will keep the site updated with news as it progresses - we will call it the Ian light project so watch this space as they say.
