Information and advice for prospective students from India

To help you prepare, the following information provides guidance on the entrance requirements you will need to meet, alongside further information in support of your application.

Entry Requirements

Prospective students from India are required to meet the following University of Lincoln entrance requirements:

Foundation Entry

For further information on Foundation and International Year 1 entry requirements, please visit the International Study Centre website.

Undergraduate Entry

Students require one of the following qualifications for entry into year one of an undergraduate degree:

  • Indian XII qualification awarded by either the CBSE / State / Metropolitan Examination Board. Applicants require a minimum aggregate of 70% in Standard XII with 80% in key subjects
  • A - Level qualifications. Further information on specific course entry requirements can be found on the individual undergraduate course pages
  • Between 27 and 34 International Baccalaureate (IB) points depending on the course you wish to apply for. Specific information on IB requirements can be found on individual undergraduate course pages.

Please note that UCAS tariff points vary by course. To help you better understand our entry requirements, the below conversion table may help you to convert subject grades to tariff points.

Advanced Entry (Undergraduate)

Depending on your academic background and intended course of study, it may be possible to apply for advanced entry into year two or three of an undergraduate course. For more information, please contact the International Admissions team:

Postgraduate Entry


Prospective students require a good Bachelor degree from a recognised institution in India (or the UK) with a minimum grade of 50%.


Candidates must have successfully completed a Masters Degree.

Applicants seeking MPhil/PhD or Research masters degrees will need to provide research proposals.

English Language Requirements

Prospective students require one of the following qualifications:

  • 70% in Standard XII English from either the CBSE / State / Metropolitan Examination Boards for courses requiring IELTS 6.0.
  • IELTS 6.0 (with no less than 5.5 in each band score) or equivalent. Please note that some courses require a higher score.

Students who do not meet the above English language requirements may be eligible for entry onto a Pre Sessional English and Academic Study Skills (PEASS) course.

Fees and Funding

Tuition Fees

University of Lincoln students are required to pay tuition fees for each year of their course. Further information regarding tuition fees, fee status and how to pay can be found on our International Tuition Fees page.


Each year, we are delighted to award a number of scholarships to academically gifted students from across India. Depending on your academic ability and intended programme of study, there are a range of scholarships which may be available.

For 2018/19, the following scholarships are available to suitably qualified students from India:

Undergraduate Scholarships

  • £2,000 Undergraduate Scholarships available to students enrolling onto the first year of an undergraduate degree*
  • £1,000 Scholarships available to students entering onto an undergraduate final year ‘top up’ programme (e.g. year 3 entry)*
  • £5,000 GREAT Scholarships, students will be considered based on academic merit 
  • Engineering Bursaries


Postgraduate Scholarships

  • £2,000 Global Merit Scholarships available to students enrolling onto a postgraduate (taught or masters by research) programme with a minimum 2:2 or equivalent.*
  • £5,000 India Merit Scholarships for high achieving students**


* This is an automatic scholarship which will be awarded to you if you meet the requirements.
** A scholarship application must be submitted in order to apply for the scholarship


PhD Scholarships

Periodically PhD Studentships are available for suitably qualified research students.

International Scholarships

As an international student, you may be eligible for additional grants, bursaries or scholarships from external organisations. For further information, please visit the British Council’s Education UK website.
