Information and advice for prospective students from Hong Kong

As one of the UK’s leading modern universities, students from more than 100 countries apply to the University of Lincoln each year for degree level studies.

To help you prepare, the following information provides guidance on the entrance requirements you will need to meet, alongside further information in support of your application.

Entry Requirements

Prospective students from Hong Kong are required to meet the following University of Lincoln entrance requirements:

Foundation Entry

For further information on Foundation and International Year 1 entry requirements, please visit the International Study Centre website.

Undergraduate Entry

Students require one of the following qualifications:

  • Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE): UCAS Tariff between 104-136 points from all subjects
  • Between 27 and 34 International Baccalaureate (IB) points depending on the course you wish to apply for.  Specific information on IB requirements can be found on the individual undergraduate course pages
  • Hong Kong Advanced Level Certificate
  • Good Honours Diploma / Associate Degree / Higher Diploma (from former polytechnics)

Please note that UCAS tariff points vary by course. To help you better understand our entry requirements, the below conversion table may help you to convert subject grades to tariff points.

Converting offers to Tariff points:

A-level BCC (40+32+32) = 104 Tariff points
A-level BBC (40+40+32) = 112 Tariff points
A-level BBB (40+40+40) = 120 Tariff points
A-level ABB (48+40+40) = 128 Tariff points
A-level AAB (48+48+40) = 136 Tariff points 

Subjects specifics (eg: science/art, etc):

A-level grade C (32 points) = HKDSE 4
A-level grade B (40 points) = HKDSE 5

Advanced Entry (Undergraduate)

Depending on your academic background and intended course of study, it may be possible to apply for advanced entry into year two or three of an undergraduate course. For more information, please contact the International Admissions team:

Postgraduate Entry


Entry requirements for postgraduate (master degree) programmes vary by course although prospective students require a Bachelors (Honours) degree with a minimum 2:2 or equivalent.

Successful completion of a Masters Degree

English Language Requirements

Prospective students from Hong Kong require one of the following qualifications:

  • HKDSE English Grade 4 overall, with a minimum grade of 4 in each element (speaking, listening, reading and writing)
  • IELTS 6.0 (with no less than 5.5 in each band score) or equivalent. Please note that some courses require a higher score.

Students who do not meet the above English language requirements may be eligible for entry onto a Pre Sessional English and Academic Study Skills (PEASS) course.

Fees and Funding

Tuition Fees

University of Lincoln students are required to pay tuition fees for each year of their course. Further information regarding tuition fees, fee status and how to pay can be found on our International Tuition Fees page.


Each year, we are delighted to award a number of scholarships to academically gifted students from across Hong Kong. Depending on your academic ability and intended programme of study, there are a range of scholarships which may be available.

For 2018/19, the following scholarships are available to suitably qualified students from Hong Kong:

Undergraduate Scholarships

  • £2,000 Undergraduate Scholarships available to students enrolling onto the first year of an undergraduate degree*
  • £1,000 Scholarships available to students entering onto an undergraduate final year ‘top up’ programme (e.g. year 3 entry)*


Postgraduate Scholarships

  • £2,000 Global Merit Scholarships available to students enrolling onto a postgraduate (taught or masters by research) programme with a minimum 2:2 or equivalent.*

*This is an automatic scholarship which will be awarded to you if you meet the requirements. 

International Scholarships

As an international student, you may be eligible for additional grants, bursaries or scholarships from external organisations. For further information, please visit the British Council’s Education UK website.
