This course is aimed at farmers, farm staff local authorities, pest controllers, public utilities, drainage boards, grounds staff, green keepers, forestry workers, the grain trade, those with sporting interests, and all those involved in, or responsible for, all aspects of rat and mouse control.
Following this course, students will be able to:
- Identify species, and understand feeding & breeding habits, behavioural patterns and abilities
- Understand the need for control
- Plan effective control at the right time and place
- Select the most efficient and appropriate control method for the situation, e.g. poison, traps, gas, etc.
- Understand the legal aspect of control (including the 1990 Food Safety Act)
- Be familiar with safety and legal requirements of each product and know where to find specific information on usage and safety
- Carry out a survey of an infested area
- Understand the need for records
- Practice the relevant skills.
You will need to bring writing materials and suitable outdoor clothing with you.
