This course is aimed at farmers, farm staff, local authorities, pest controllers, public utilities, drainage boards, grounds staff, green keepers, forestry workers or anyone involved in any aspect of rabbit or mole control.
The course covers the following topics:
- Identify species
- Understand the need for control
- Improve knowledge of biology of rabbits and moles including breeding, feeding, behaviour patterns and the effect these have on control methods and timing
- Plan effective control at the right time and place
- Select most efficient and appropriate control method for the relevant situation, traps, gas etc
- Understanding legal aspects of control especially for rabbits
- Be familiar with safety and legal requirements of each product and know where to find specific information on usage and safety
- Carry out survey of an infested area
- Understand the need for records
- Practice the relevant skills.
Requirements:
- Writing materials
- Suitable footwear
- 1 passport photo
- Packed lunch, flask tea/coffee (alternatively refreshments can be purchased from the restaurant on campus).
Accommodation is not available on campus but a list of hotels can be provided on request.
