Riseholme College Award in Gardening

Cost: £400 when booking all 5 modules in Year 1

This modular course has been developed for those with a keen interest in amateur gardening but who do not wish to sit exams, or gain a nationally recognised qualification.  Certificates for modules and the full Award are awarded on the basis of attendance. There are no examinations.

Students can choose to study one or more individual modules, but must take at least four modules to gain the full Award. On completion of full attendance on at least the equivalent of four modules from the evening set or four from the daytime set within 2 years the Riseholme College Award in Gardening will be awarded. Most students would usually expect to complete the Award within one year.

There are two study options:

Daytime Option

Wednesdays 11am – 3pm (with an hour for lunch).

Modules:

  • Plant propagation (single module)
  • Trees and shrubs (single module
  • Garden design (single module)
  • Growing vegetables and salads (single module)
  • Organic gardening (single module) - starts 11 May 2011.

Evening Option

Wednesdays 7pm - 9pm

There will also be one Saturday every six weeks (dates will be confirmed on registration)

Students on this option will be taught together with students on the RHS Level 2 course, and study the following modules:

  • Plant Biology (double module)
  • Soils (single module)
  • Weeds, pests and diseases (single module)
  • Propagation (single module).

Single modules are usually 6 weeks and one Saturday

Double modules are usually 12 weeks and 2 Saturdays (dates to be confirmed).

Accommodation is not available on campus but a list of hotels can be provided on request.
