The Food & Environment Protection Act requires that persons born after the 31 December 1964 obtain a certificate to prove that they are competent to apply pesticides. Any person of any age who applies pesticides on contract work is also required to have a certificate.

This course will equip you with the knowledge and skills to:

  • Identify those aspects of legislation which apply to the use of pesticides, in particular their responsibilities under the Control of Pesticides Regulations 1986
  • Use the information on container labels and elsewhere to determine the approved uses, potential hazards to human safety, other crops or the environment of a particular product and the precautions necessary to use it safely
  • Identify the necessary protective clothing for use with a particular product
  • Carry out correct procedures for handling, mixing and storing pesticides and the disposal of empty containers and surplus pesticide.

The PA1 module covers the following areas:

  • Environment
  • Clothing
  • Disposal
  • Legislation
  • Records
  • Storage
  • Interpretation.

Assessment will be arranged for a future date, and is a GOLA online assessment. This course has been awarded 12 NRoSO CPD points. Breakdown: 6E,4AP, 2CP

You will need to bring the following with you:

  • One passport sized photograph of yourself
  • Writing materials and suitable outdoor clothing
  • NRoSO CPD record.

Accommodation is not available on campus but a list of hotels can be provided on request
