The University of Lincoln’s Equine Department is a BHS Approved Training Centre up to BHS Stage 4 and a BHS exam centre.
The facilities include two outdoor arenas (30m x 40m and 20m x 60m) one of which is floodlit and our recently opened indoor arena (25m x 65m). Our purpose built new centre houses 28 horses of varying standards.
A new DIY livery yard has also been added with 20 loose boxes.
Entry is open to those who have completed Stage 1 or have studied a Stage 1 course.
Designed to further your knowledge, basic skills and awareness of the horse through practical and theory sessions. Subject areas can be used in preparation for BHS Stage 2 Horse Care and Knowledge exam.
Areas covered include:
- Basic foot structure / Common injuries and basic first aid
- Feeding / Grassland management
- Saddlery / Stable routines
- Bedding / The Highway and Country Codes
- Insurance
- Assessment.
On completion of the course students will take the Level 2 exam. The examination fee is included in the course cost
You will need a current standard hat (PAS015/BSEN1384 ASTMF1163), gloves, suitable yard footwear and writing materials.
